Blog Changes

ChangeNew information on a topic compels me to change existing blog posts. There have been two so enlightened this week, plus an update.

The first was in regard to the last “Auditor Gadgets” post, and the other about Annex SL. The update is regarding ISO DIS 14001:2015.

Auditor Gadgets – Tablet Computers: When I wrote it, the Microsoft Surface Pro 3 had not yet been released, though I mentioned it as a potential upcoming consideration.

Since then, it has entered the marketplace and, as a summary, looks quite good indeed. So, the text in that blog post has been augmented to include it as  real option and remove it from the land of speculation.

The second update was to the post about Annex SL: Someone asked me, “What does the SL stand for?” – great question! So, I’ve updated that post to include the scandalous and provocative answer (I might be exaggerating…).
DIS 14K - Released! Not really a change but an update. I blogged on July 1st that the new DIS to ISO 14001:2015 was due out that day. Well, with a minimal amount of fanfare – it was released as promised. I have a copy open on my desktop as I write this. I’ll share my thoughts as soon as they coalesce into something communicable ( like rabies ).

Lastly, while I have your attention, I’d like to make a quick “shout-out” to a great site on Management Systems, “The Portal Quality“. It’s a Serbian site, but translations with Google are easy enough to come by (basically automatic if you are using  Chrome).

portal qualityVery comprehensive with plenty of topical and relevant goodness to be found.  They’ve sent traffic my way, so this is my way of “Thank You!”

Check them out: here.

That’s it for now!

Thanks again for playing, I’m looking forward to digging into that new 14001 DIS….

DIS 14001:2015 Expected This Month

ISO DIS 14001:2015
DIS 14001:2015, “Environmental Management Systems” is expected – momentarily.

This standard, if it is new to you, specifies requirements for an environmental management system – defines what a company must consider to develop and implement a policy and objectives which take into account requirements to which the organization subscribes.

While the standard doesn’t specify any legal requirements, impacts or environmental aspects, it does define a framework where a company must determine and comply with or manage them.

Currently, we’re at a CD (Committee Draft) stage for a new revision – and this DIS is the next step along the road to ISO 14001:2015.

The Schedule for DIS 14001:2015

Last May in Panama City there was a meeting of ISO Technical Committee ISO/TC207/SC1/WG5, – the TC responsible for the standard.  At that time, they set a date for the publication of DIS 14001:2015 for July 1st, 2014.  It will come out first in English, then translated into other languages to prepare for the formal balloting period set to begin in September.

That balloting stage will go on for three months, closing in November.

While we wait for DIS 14001:2015, I’ve found this video, originally released a shade over a year ago by LRQA (Lloyd’s Register Quality Assurance) .

It is an interview with Steve Williams, LRQA’s Deputy Technical Director, where he discussed the upcoming revision. Steve, who is also a member of TC 207 discusses where they were at that time and reviews the overall revision process – again, this is back in June of 2013.

LRQA ISO 14001 Revision Series: Where we are in the revision process for the ISO 14001 update from LRQA on Vimeo.

My hope is that this is shareable, as it appears on a public site and I’ve credited LRQA as the originator and author (and why not, it’s basically a commercial).

Hopefully I’ll be able to grab a copy of DIS 14001:2015 today, as promised – then I can report on what changes appear in this newest draft.

Thanks for stopping by – cross your fingers!
